It’s puppy love

Welcome back!

puppy-love

Yep, it’s official, we are getting a puppy.

After much thought and the fact that my friend Jane posted about her Golden Retriever, Betty the Blonde having puppies, I have decided that I AM ready for  the responsibility of a  family pet.    This was confirmed  before we saw the puppies today and fell in love.  I would not let cuteness be the reason for my decision.

We’ll be able to bring our “Honey” home the first week of June.   Consider this our celebratory gift of summer vacation.

I’ll be prepping my home and learning all I can about Golden Retrievers over the next month.  If you have any tips for training please be sure to comment.

    Training from day one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    include the whole family (ROTATION)

Close bathroom doors all the time! Not just for stopping toilet drinking, because toilet paper is super puppy fun! Merlyn dragged an attached TP roll across the house and out the front door.

Put up all hanging, draping, cords (lamps, vacuums, tv, cell phones, ect)… they too are fun. Merlyn chewed a vacuum cord shortly after the toilet paper. Sadly it was only sitting out for a few minutes while I was upstairs…

    Just my top thoughts…

WOW, You’re a brave woman! I agree w/Kyria–training for the puppy and the kids from day one. Make your life easier. ; ) We put a leash on the door knob/handle and took the puppy out all the time to get it to go outside and greatly reduce inside toilet training. May even want to hang a bell on the handle/knob and teach it how to push it w/its nose so you know when puppy has to go!

    Good luck!

Awww…what a cute puppy! We’ve had 2 golden retrievers and although they can be a handful as puppies, they are the most loving dogs. You’ll just love having her around!

Definitely agree with the *keeping doors closed* advice. Also big for us was training Chance to sit and stay while we get his meals.

Chance liked to bit our baseboards during his teething months so be prepared for that. Thankfully neither of our dogs ever chewed on furniture.

Good luck! Hope you enjoy having a golden!!
